The Bride

(private collection)

description A half-length portrait of a young bride, seen in full face view with her head turned slightly to the left. Her blonde hair is dressed in curls, she wears a white wedding dress and veil and holds a bouquet of red roses. The background has been painted in mauve and pinkish tones - a palette Frankfurther generally reserved for her studies of women. The over-painting of the upper left of the picture may suggest some changes in the composition although there is also some minor surface damage. This is one of a small number of works featuring brides, set in Whitechapel.
