Eva Frankfurther artist (1930-1959)

Woman with Auburn Hair

(private collection)

description A head-and-shoulders portrait of a pale, auburn-haired woman seen in left profile. She wears long earrings, a white blouse and grey jacket. Frankfurther renders the figure with a dark outline and uses a muted palette of light peach tones, with shades of grey and a deep yellow ochre for the hair. The artist observed a number of studies of a red-haired Irish woman (see 'Woman with Two Children' and 'East End Mother and Child') and it is possible that this is the same sitter, however, her strong, aquiline profile more closely resembles that of the sitter in the lithograph entitled 'Woman in Profile with Earring'.
