Eva Frankfurther artist (1930-1959)

West Indian Mother and Child

(private collection)

description A half-length portrait drawing of a young West Indian mother, sitting propped up against a pillow in bed, cradling her sleeping baby. The spare background and suggestion of a curtain to the right suggest a hospital setting (Frankfurther is known to have been a hospital visitor). The sitters are unknown but this is one of a number of Frankfurther's tender mother-and-baby images.
