Eva Frankfurther artist (1930-1959)

Young monk, Assisi

(private collection)

description A head-and-shoulders portrait drawing in left profile, inscribed (lower right) 'Young Monk Assisi/1951', executed on the artist's first visit to Italy in 1951. Frankfurther described Assisi as 'spiritual, austere and rather grey, at least by Italian standards', and her spare but characterful drawings share something of these first two qualities.
