Woman Cleaner

(private collection)

description A three-quarter-length, lithographic portrait of a stout female cleaner in late middle age, dressed in overalls and holding a bucket in her left hand. Her careworn face, which is seen in three quarter view with her head turned slightly to the right, wears an expression of mild surprise, as though she has been interrupted in her task. The same composition also appears as a drawing although the bucket is held in the cleaner's left hand. A sketched portrait of a female cleaner (seen from behind) is thought to be of the same sitter.
