Woman with Three Children
description A colourful composition depicting a mother, seen in left profile, dressed in blue and wearing a yellow and red patterned headscarf, holding one child in her right arm, with two other young children clasping the other. The work was painted during the artist's visit to Israel in 1958. The little girl in the red checked dress also appears in another composition holding the youngest child, and in two separate compositions carrying a tray. The pose of the mother is reminiscent of Frankfurther's earlier 'Woman with Two Children', set in the East End in 1955. The headscarf was the artist's own and she also wears it in 'Self-portrait in Yellow Headscarf'.
